Convert JPG to PNG

A PNG file is lossless: once you save it, no further compression artifacts are introduced even if you re-open and re-save it many times. That makes PNG the right destination when you plan to mark up, crop, or composite the image in a downstream editor. Converting JPG to PNG does not magically recover the detail that JPG compression already discarded — the JPG is the source of truth — but it does freeze the current state so subsequent edits do not compound losses.
