Why convert PNG to AVIF?
AVIF supports an alpha channel, so PNG-to-AVIF preserves the transparency you would otherwise lose by converting to JPG. For photographic PNGs the savings are extreme — a 3 MB PNG can become a 200 KB AVIF that is visually identical. For flat UI graphics, AVIF still wins over PNG but the difference is more modest. AVIF browser support is now broad enough (95% global, 2026) that AVIF can be a primary format with a PNG or WebP fallback for the long-tail. The tool supports batches of up to 10 files at once.
The ideal use case is PNG sprites and decorative imagery that need transparency — favicons, illustrations, hero composites, isometric scenes. Move those to AVIF and ship them via a `<picture>` element with a PNG fallback for older clients. Quality 55–65 is usually invisible for graphics; bump to 70–75 for photographic content with subtle gradient detail. If you have an entire library of PNG assets to migrate, batch them ten at a time, download the ZIP, and run a one-line site-wide rename to update markup.
