Why convert PNG to JPG?
PNG is the wrong format for photos. It stores every pixel exactly, which is wasted on photographic content where lossy compression is invisible to the eye but saves enormous bandwidth. If you find yourself with a 6 MB PNG photograph, converting to JPG at quality 82 will likely bring it to under 1 MB with no perceptible quality drop. Tiny Pixel Kit converts PNG to JPG in the browser. Transparent pixels in the PNG become white in the JPG output (JPG does not support transparency). For UI graphics, screenshots and illustrations with transparency, keep the PNG or consider WebP — for photos, JPG is the right answer. The tool supports up to 10 files per batch.
This conversion comes up most often when somebody screenshot-saved a photo, exported from a tool that defaults to PNG (Mac's Preview, certain camera apps), or downloaded an image from a CMS that always serves PNG regardless of source. The fix is one tool away — drop the file below, choose a quality between 78 and 88, and download a JPG that is dramatically lighter but visually identical. If you are not sure whether your image is photographic or graphic, look at the histogram: photos have smooth gradients across the entire luminance range, while graphics cluster in a few values. Smooth gradients compress beautifully in JPG; sharp transitions do not.
